Superman / Diane Lane

Though we've seen rumors of actors like Viggo Mortensen, Daniel Day-Lewis and Kevin Costner for roles in Zack Snyder's comic book adaptation Superman: Man of Steel, today we don't just have another rumor for the film, but a solid casting update via a press release from Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures. Diane Lane (Secretariat, Jumper) has been cast as Martha Kent - mother to Clark Kent, secret identity of The Big Blue Boy Scout. Snyder commented on her casting: "This was a very important piece of casting for me because Martha Kent is the woman whose values helped shape the man we know as Superman." Read on!

Snyder continued, "We are thrilled to have Diane in the role because she can convey the wisdom and the wonder of a woman whose son has powers beyond her imagination.” Of course Lane will spend plenty of time with Henry Cavill who snagged the role of Superman/Clark Kent. Now we'll just have to wait to hear if Kevin Costner will indeed be playing Jonathan "Pa" Kent as was rumored a little while back. The cast for Superman: Man of Steel, which isn't the official title (it's still "new Superman movie" at WB) will be filling out quickly as the movie inches closer to production start. Happy with Diane Lane as Martha Kent?

Damn. Couldn't have picked a better person for that role. Impressive.

Really good. The cast looks like the dark knight. Can't wait for this darker and more realistic superman (even though their is nothing real about him) lol xD once again... Good cast.

Yep she is perfect for the role she is still hot too.

A young redhead. Like that ain't going to cause people's eyebrows to raise.

Well, she is 46. Henry Cavill is 28, which if she did give birth to Clark Kent (Which of course, she didn't) that would put her at 18. Not that farfetched. However, let's not discount: She's been nominated for 2 Golden Globes, 1 Emmy, and 1 Oscar. Thus far, with the exception of Cavill, Snyder seems to be lining up Oscar nominated actors and actresses. He's making a serious attempt at making a darker, more modern Superman with an incredible cast. This is just one fantastic piece to the Metropolis/Smallville universe.

A Dark Ma Kent. Is there anything more unappealing? You make this move sound like a bomb. Hope not. And a redhead. LOL. oh snyder. you just can't help yourself can you?

This cast is so weird. Smallville reboot? I don't get it.

Zack Snyder is enough for me to already want to watch it. Lol. Seriously.
  • Yep
I am GLAD Snyder is going the Smallville route. A big problem with Singer's movie was it felt worn out and OLD thanks to its ties to movies from a generation ago. Snyder will MOVE ON, something the idiot producers never did. I'll take Smallville over Donnerville any day of the week!

There is no bloody thing as "too hot."

This is good cast move. You can definitely see Nolan's hand in getting well known actors for this movie. If Snyder can get Viggo to play Zod; that will definitely be a winner for me.

Good call by Nolan of using the look and feel of Smallville in his cast choices. It is fresher and more modern than the dusty feel of the films from the 70s and 80s. The old couple of the comic books and movies just aren't relevant to modern audiences.

Sweet, she's always good in any role.
