Disney is Already Close to Greenlighting a Sequel to Tron Legacy?
Though the reviews may be split almost right down the middle, you can't deny that Tron Legacy created some massive buzz and really pleased some hardcore geeks out there. It's also great to see the power of Comic-Con hype result in a big blockbuster and its moderately successful release. Well now it sounds like Tron Legacy was successful enough that the seeds planted in the franchise reboot of sorts may get a chance to grow. AICN has word from their "Grapevine of Industry Insiders" that Disney is incredibly close to greenlighting a sequel to keep the story of Sam Flynn pushing forward, so we won't have to wait another 28 years for a sequel this time.
Nothing is official yet, and it's not clear when Disney might make this announcement, but it's not really surprising. Even though the film had plenty of closure, there's definitely some subplots left open to be dealt with at a later time (especially one concerning a great actor as a new character with ties to a villain from the original Tron). And while Tron Legacy wasn't as huge a success as an installment of Harry Potter, the worldwide box office take is nothing to ignore, and the merchandising that comes with the franchise certainly helps. As someone who thoroughly enjoyed Tron Legacy (even though it has plenty of flaws), I'm interested in seeing where the story goes from here (especially if Daft Punk does the score again). How about you?

I'll be excited only if: A. The keep Daft Punk, and B. They hire new screenwriters.

I was disappointed...really...so either they make genial screenplay and change director...or f*ck off.

I mean, the idea behind Tron is golden! But the story in this film is so incredibly bad! Ah well... a lot of money, a good marketing machine and a 3D version of it can make almost any film profitable these days.

Don't change the director, the stuff he did with the tron is just incredible. But definitely change the writers.

I agree with you 100%. The writers did do some interesting stuff in the way they didn't slap you in the face with exposition (until they spend like fifteen solid minutes doing it in Flynn's hideout), but I think a lot of information was beyond the grasp of a lot of people, based on some of the inaccuracies I've seen in a lot of reviews. So long as they don't do anything stupid like hire Akiva Goldsman or the Transformers guys.

Well duh, I mean come on the first 10 minutes they randomly introduce some rich villain looking guy (Cillian Murphy), Then you never see him again the whole film, just screamed SEQUEL!

It was more like CAMEO! for a mate of the director.

It was more the way they showed off the character, but I didnt know he was a friend of the director.

Yeah, if someone was making a Tron movie and I was a famous A-list film star, I'd probably call them up and be like "Hey, I wanna cameo cause I fucking love Tron. I'll do it for free. What's that? The son of Dillinger? Fuck yeah!"

Those visuals with a great story behind it on a second run would be the best.

Hmmm...could go both ways...

as long as there is no more cgi jeff bridges...that was awful and ruined the movie for me.

If Daft Punk does the soundtrack again, there is a REAL plot, the characters feel real and none of the lame love dialog (let's be serious, I know its a geek film but some of us geeks know how to talk to women), and you keep the cool effects since I felt it was a great experience.

I'd like to see Summer Glau in this.

You can't really compare Harry potter to Tron... lol!

Just fix the writing/directing/production this time. Loved it otherwise!
