Does Jennifer Lopez Know 'Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?'
After working on the big screen adaptations of The Chronicles of Narnia series, Walden Media is looking to take another high profile property that kids of all ages should be familiar with as Deadline reports the production company has acquired the rights to Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? a series of computer games that eventually turned into a PBS game show and animated series. In addition, apparently Jennifer Lopez is at least producing the film, and there's a good chance the property is being developed as a starring vehicle for Lopez as well. Is there nothing Hollywood won't turn into a feature film nowadays?
Apparently the project is being described as National Treasure meets The Thomas Crown Affair with the story following ACME agency's greatest detective turned international thief Carmen Sandiego as she evades her former partner trying to track her down. But whilst in pursuit, her partner has to figure out whether Carmen is just really a thief, or if there's something more to her larcenous ways. The real question is whther she'll go from Nashville to Norway, Bonaire to Zimbabwe, Chicago to Czechoslovakia and back. The premise sounds like it could work for a feature, film, but once again, Hollywood is scared to give an original film a chance without a recognizable brand name attached. The only way I'm in is if Rockapella comes back to do the stellar and catchy theme song all over again. What do you think, gumshoes?
