After rounding up some of the supporting cast, Italian director Carlo Carlei has finally found the other half of the titular star-crossed lovers for his new take on William Shakespeare's classic tragedy Romeo and Juliet. Back in April we found out True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld would play Juliet, and now Variety reports Douglas Booth, who starred in the Starz miniseries "Pillars of the Earth" and will next be seen alongside Miley Cyrus in LOL, has snagged the role of Romeo. The 19-year old actor beat out more than 300 other actors for the role, so he must have really shown some talent spouting off Shakespeare's work.
The film already has Ed Westwick ("Gossip Girl") and Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In) cast as family cousins Tybalt and Benvolio respectively, and Holly Hunter will play Juliet's nurse. If you didn't go to school, or just have no idea about Shakespeare, the story follows a romantic and accomplished swordsman named Romeo who falls for Juliet, the daughter of his family rivals, the Capulets. To say the least, the romance is complicated by the bitter rivalry, but the two will do anything they can do stay together, even if that means they must die side by side. Seems like a talented young cast so far, and there's plenty of other supporting roles to be filled so stay tuned.
