Eddie Redmayne Will Play Marius in Tom Hooper's 'Les Miserables'
With a whole slew of gifted actors like Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway and Russell Crowe making their big screen musical debut with Les Miserables (though each of them have done plenty of singing elsewhere), this new adaptation from director Tom Hooper (The King's Speech) is already quite an anticipated project among film and musical fans alike. Now an up and coming actor will certainly get a boost from this fantastic career opportunity as Deadline reports Eddie Redmayne, who will be seen later this year in My Week with Marilyn, has landed the role of Marius, a young man who falls in love Cosette, a major role yet to be cast.
Meanwhile, Éponine, another role that has yet to be filled, secretly loves Marius, but still helps him find Cosette who has been taken by Valjean. There's more to the story set during the 19th century French rebellion, but we don't want to give everything away. Redmayne, who already has Oscar buzz for his turn in My Week with Marilyn, is another fantastic addition to the cast, and since Hayden Panettiere, Miranda Cosgrove, Lucy Hale, and Emma Watson have been rumored to be circling the aforementioned empty female roles involved with his character, he'll definitely have some great talent beside him. The cast is only going to keep getting better, and as a fan of musicals and great filmmaking, this can only be good news.
