Today we heard about some supporting roles being cast for Lionsgate's adaptation of Suzanne Collins' hit book series The Hunger Games, but now a big name has just joined the cast as well. Variety reports Elizabeth Banks is in talks to take a role in the high profile project, and the actress will play Effie Trinket, a flaky bureaucrat who escorts her district's young death-match contestants to their fate. She'll be the one leading Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson as Katniss and Peeta respectively as the enter the televised event known as The Hunger Games. This is shaping up to be quite a stellar cast for the March 2012 release.
Liam Hemsworth is also part of the cast in the story of a place once known as North America where a harsh and cruel place called The Capitol keeps its districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sounds like quite a brutal story for a book series taking kids and adults by storm, but look at how gritty and intense the Harry Potter franchise has become over the past ten years. Let's hope this can measure up to that extremely lucrative franchise and still deliver a loyal adaptation for fans. Sound good?
