Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Briefly: Make what you will of this, but it is just a title. SlashFilm via CBM has confirmed with 20th Century Fox that Rupert Wyatt's new Rise of the Apes prequel/reboot, starring James Franco, will now be officially titled Rise of the Planet of the Apes. It's not hard to see that Fox is having trouble figuring out how to market this, originally moving the release in November, then pulling it back to August 5th. Now this change is just a way to get the original Rise of the Apes name somewhere directly in the title, without calling it Rise of the Apes. Oh whatever, I just want to see a trailer, I'm actually still pretty damn excited to see this.

Rise of the Apes is set in contemporary San Francisco and follows a young scientist who becomes a crucial figure in the war between humans and apes. Franco has been testing his Alzheimer cure on apes, but one of them, named Caesar, starts to evolve rapidly, so he takes him home to live with him and protect him from the "cruel doctors," thus starting the inevitable ape revolution. James Franco stars, along with Andy Serkis providing motion capture for Caesar and Weta doing CGI, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox and Tom Felton. Word is that we'll finally see a teaser trailer next week, by April 15th, so keep an eye out for that, too!

hahaha what a horrible title. What the hell was wrong with "Rise of the Apes?" that worked, although I would prefer "Rise of the Damned Dirty Apes" that one is catchy.
    • I would love to one day see a studio bold enough to name a movie "Rise of the Damned Dirty Apes" - please let that happen soon!

That would be pretty damn amazing if it ever happened.
    • The studio producers worried that fundamentalists would think it was a movie about evolution so they caved.

damn society and it's need for political correctness....
      • Well, it *is* a movie about evolution in a way. Or, rather, the films wouldn't exist without evolution.

How about this as a title: "Been there, done that, but let's do it all again anyway."

        That is catchy.

Doesn't matter what they call it it's going to be a bomb and almost immediately go to DVD.

I liked the original title "Caeser". I think that was simplistic and beautiful, but I realize it would have been confusing to the general public.

I think the title has James Bond syndrome... 😉

Some people are more receptive to the familiar. It makes marketing sense. A movie targeting all ages not just 18-34yr old. The old planet of the apes movies are still pretty entertaining.

But the title is pretty bad, Rise of the Apes is vastly superior this current title.
      • Bettybmusing
        Hmmmmm...I see your point.
  • wtf i liked the old one better even "Planet of the Rising Apes " sounds better mentioned by other people!
