Geoffrey Rush is Voicing the Alien Tomar-Re in DC's 'Green Lantern'
Those who are Green Lantern fans already know that half of the story (and movie) will take in space at a planet called Oa, which is where the Green Lanterns are based. The Green Lantern Corps is made up of numerous aliens, some of whom we meet in the movie and train Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds). One of them is named Tomar-Re, an alien with a bird-beak that we featured a photo of last year. Although they shot actors with motion capture, WB waited until after shooting to hire actors for voices. Hero Complex reports that Oscar winner Geoffrey Rush will voice Tomar-Re. But there's more, as we might know another voice.
In addition to Rush voicing Tomar-Re (see above for comparison shots), Latino Review reported a few days ago that Michael Clarke Duncan will be voicing the gigantic alien known as Kilowog (photo of him in the movie here). We didn't initially report this because I've heard it's not official yet. I even emailed Warner Bros to get confirmation, but never heard back, so it could change. For now, it looks like Geoffrey Rush and Michael Clarke Duncan will be providing voices for two of the aliens in Green Lantern coming this summer.
Tomar-Re was a scientist on the planet Xudar before joining the Green Lantern Corps. He became a pivotal member of the Corps, training new members, like Arisia, and serving in the Honor Guard. He's seen in the movie when Reynolds goes to Oa to train (I've seen early footage and it looks great). Kilowog, a gifted genetic scientist, was recruited by The Guardians of the Universe from the planet Bolovax Vik, located in Space Sector 674. He is renowned throughout the Green Lantern Corps as the primary trainer of the Corps' newest recruits. Green Lantern is directed by Martin Campbell and stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard and Mark Strong as the alien Sinestro. It arrives in theaters starting on June 17th this summer.
