GK Films Picks Up 'Tomb Raider' Reboot Rights, Set to Arrive 2013

March 7, 2011

Lara Croft Tomb Raider

Briefly: We all knew this was coming, even after Cradle of Life. Not much news to report yet, but The Wrap and EW are reporting that GK Films, run by producer Graham King, has announced today they've acquired feature film rights for a reboot of the action-adventure Tomb Raider, based on Eidos/Square Enix's iconic video game series. Although it is a reboot, we still don't know who is directing, writing, or who will take the place of Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft. All that we do know for now is that it'll hit theaters in 2013 and that GK Films is "very excited to be rebooting what is already a hugely successful film franchise." Anyone else?

Cast Olivia Wilde or (I was gonna say Keria Knightley...but lets face it Lara Croft is supposed to be sporting...well big..planetoids) Scarlett Johnasson (I would have said Gemma Arterton, but people hate her right now).

Actually, Game Informer magazine recently reported that Eidos is rebooting the video game series as well and it will feature a more... realistically endowed Lara. Check her out here: Personally I think this incarnation of Lara is WAAAAY hotter than the original. I sorta enjoyed the movies, but hopefully the new movies will go well with the new Lara.

My thoughts exactly. It'd be nice if the game reboot and the film reboot had some of the same goals.

Why a reboot? Either leave it be or get some decent film makers (director and writer mainly) to make a third chapter that Angelina would be proud to act in. Someone like Spielberg (he would probably never direct tho). Would be awesome if it was successful like the Indiana Jones trilogy. PLEASE STOP REBOOTING STUFF!

Actually, I think Stana Katic from "Castle" would make a great Lara Croft! She can kick butt and she does a lot of Accents!

Oh Yeah, I definitely agree. At least let us hope they acknowledge her for the role! cause i would!!

I think it would be cool if they re-made it with a more james bond style. Have it darker with a more serious tone. And have the lead be Rhona Mitra.

Now THAT I might like to see!

Gina Carano or Michelle Rodriquez. Let`s face it we need a kick-ass female not a brake like a twig woman.

A hugely successful film franchise? Because it made some money... and now they want more.

I've been waiting a long time for this one. Tomb Raider was one of the rare video game films that were actually good.
