This past February we learned that young Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld had lined up a new project in the form of a big screen adaptation of Cat Patrick's novel Forgotten. Now she's lined up another project that fits into the recent alternate fairytale trend as Deadline reports the actress is attached to Sleeping Beauty, a new spec script being shopped around to studios that puts a twist on the classic sleepy princess. Lindsay Devlin has delivered a "revisionist take" on the tale that will have the story told from Beauty's point of view as she enters the dream world and has to find her way out. But I could've sworn Sucker Punch just hit theaters last week?
Whether you compare it to Zack Snyder's recent genre mash-up or Alice in Wonderland, the story is certainly familiar. Of course, fairytales are all the rage in Hollywood right now. Several iterations of Snow White have been developing for awhile and alternate versions of Peter Pan are being birthed as well. There's also Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters and even Oz: The Great and Powerful taking a prequel approach to the Wizard of Oz tales. It's a veritable treasure trove of remixed ideas and fairytales, and while this one sounds kind of generic, I'm interested in seeing Steinfeld's career blossom. How about you?
