The cast is now set, are you ready to go to Battle School? Variety is reporting that Harrison Ford, last seen in Cowboys & Aliens, is now "locked" and officially joining the cast of Gavin Hood's Ender's Game sci-fi adaptation, playing Colonel Hyram Graff, who's in charge of training the new recruits. In addition to Ford, young Oscar nominee Abigail Breslin (of Little Miss Sunshine, Zombieland, New Year's Eve) is joining as Valentine Wiggin, Ender Wiggin's older sister. Asa Butterfield is playing Ender and Hailee Steinfeld, both 14 years old, will play Petra, Ender's ally and trusted friend. More casting and character details below.
OddLot Entertainment is developing the adaptation of Orson Scott Card's sci-fi novel, with Gavin Hood writing/directing. Butterfield, Steinfeld, Ford and Ben Kingsley—presumably cast as Mazer Rackham—are the main cast. Abigail Breslin as Valentine, with Aramis Knight (Rendition, Crossing Over) as Bean, the smallest new recruit; Moises Arias (Rico on "Hannah Montana") as Bonzo, commander of the Salamander Army, Jimmy "Jax" Pinchak (Let Me In, "Men of a Certain Age") as Ender's older brother Peter; Suraj Parthasarathy as Alai, the first to befriend Ender; Conor Carroll (Away We Go) as Bernard, who bullies Ender; and Khylin Rhambo (Criminal Minds) as Dink, a brainy member of Rat Army; plus also Brendan Meyer (Disney's "Mr. Young", via THR) as fellow classmate Stilson, make up the diverse supporting cast.
As we already know, they're gearing up to start production on Ender's Game in New Orleans in early 2012, with production throughout early next year in advance of a March 2013 release. It looks like Gavin Hood and production partners OddLot, K/O Paper Products and Digital Domain have locked down the cast, lead by Harrison Ford and Asa Butterfield, plus Hailee Steinfeld and Sir Ben Kingsley. This is starting to sound awesome. Could you really ask for anything better than putting Han Solo/Indiana Jones and Gandhi in the long-awaited Ender's Game adaptation? Now we just hope it turns out fantastic in the end. Sound good?
