Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie Also Join the 'Prometheus' Cast
There have been a lot of rumors recently about big story elements of Ridley Scott's new sci-fi Prometheus, but we've held off on mentioning any as it's all unconfirmed and very spoilery. Instead, we've got some new casting to report on, coming from industry vet Baz Bamigboye of the UK's Daily Mail (via The Playlist). Baz, who also broke Ralph Fiennes in Bond 23, says that Idris Elba (The Losers, Thor), Sean Harris (Harry Brown) and Kate Dickie (Red Road) will all be joining the ensemble cast, which already includes Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace. Shooting is starting in three weeks at Pinewood Studios.
One reason we're skeptical of the reports of giant heads pilot spaceships and xenomorph aliens showing up is because Ridley Scott tells Bamigboye that the script has not made its way online. "I was insistent that the script not leak onto the internet, where it gets dissected out of context, which spoils it for everyone." And no one wants that! Like with Chris Nolan's Inception, actors were only allowed to read the script inside of Ridley's production offices (or with guards watching). But Scott still promises something epic in scope and scale. "It's the story of creation, the gods and the man who stood against them. It's not a small film," he jokes. I certainly hope not, as I'm excited to finally see him return to epic sci-fi and this sounds great so far.
We still - officially - don't know much about Prometheus besides those early quotes that it's, "a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place." It's obviously about a crew on a spaceship and Fassbender plays the android onboard. Scott confirms to Daily Mail that it's "a science fiction thriller," so not as much huge action, but back to his Alien roots. Interestingly, Bamigboye mentions that "one of his actors told me that he could recite the entire screenplay to me" - I wonder who that was, cause that sounds like he's excited as hell to shoot this. We'll continue to keep you guys updated on Prometheus - stay tuned!
