Jackie Earle Haley, Bella Heathcote Cast in Burton's 'Dark Shadows'

Looks like everything is set to start on Tim Burton's Dark Shadows movie, starring Johnny Depp as the vampire Barnabas Collins. Deadline reports two other actors are joining - Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen, A Nightmare on Elm Street) as Willie Loomis, a con artist who becomes Barnabas' "servant and whipping boy"; and young newcomer actress Bella Heathcote ("Neighbours", Beneath Hill 60) as Victoria "Vicki" Winters. Heathcote isn't fully secured, as they only say "sources say that Bella... is the choice to play" but no confirmation. Either way, I'm excited to see some casting coming together. Haley should be great as Loomis.

Dark Shadows, adapted by author Seth Grahame-Smith of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter for Burton, is based on a 60s gothic daytime serial with vampires, ghosts, zombies, werewolves, parallel universes and time-paradoxes, that Burton described as "part campy melodrama, part dead serious—and decidedly odd—storytelling." Victoria Winters is another one of the key characters, a "good-natured governess" who always gets mixed up in things at Collinwood. It was confirmed that shooting would begin this year, and it looks like Burton has moved into casting, so progress is being made. This is obviously a project we're going to keep our eye on, because it's got Depp & Burton and sounds like it could be great. Good casting so far?

As a young lad.....running home to see "monsters" in the daytime after school was a great memory. Burton is perfect to pull this off and Mr. Depp and Jackie Earle??!! Hell yes!

Always great to see Jackie sign onto projects. Say what you will about the Watchmen film (personally thought they did as good a job as possible) but there is no denying he played a great Rorschach.

Willie Loomis? Who gives a coffin rat's ass. It was Angélique that powered the bedtime fantasies of every adolescent boy of that generation. Now there was a woman that put the 'B' in Witch.

"CAMP MELODRAMA?" Get ready for another Burton complete mis-fire ala 'Planet of the Apes.' Burton is the type of guy who would watch Jaws and classify it as a Western.

I have been a huge Dark Shadows fan since the debut of the original series. I have actually attended several conventions, I am so disappointed in the casting for this movie - cannot believe Tim Burton is directing it. It will be a farce and an insult to the original actors who portrayed the characters we love so much. Worst casting so far - the role of Angelique. Obviously Burton was not a fan of the series.
