Johnny Knoxville and John Cusack Teaming Up for 'Carnaval' Comedy
Both actors have recently taken up a couple unlikely roles with John Cusack starring in The Raven, and Johnny Knoxville getting some action with Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Last Stand, but now the two will team up in a more familiar project for each of them. THR has word that Cusack and Knoxville will team up for a new film called Carnaval, a comedy from freshman director Josh Stern. The story follows a sports scout (Cusack) sent to Rio de Janeiro during the over-the-top bacchanalia of Carnaval to recruit the world’s best soccer player with the promise that if he signs the star, he will inherit the entire agency. More below!
Knoxville will his best friend, a musician who tags along and has an affair with a woman who turns out to be the player’s girlfriend, derailing the signing mission. Surely there's plenty of other mishaps during the Carnaval making Cusack's job much more difficult to handle, and their friendship will fall apart before being saved in the end. It's a formula that's familiar, but it's the acting talent and the writing that will dictate just how fresh the comedy can be. Knoxville's film choices (outside of typical Jackass stunts) have left something to be desired for the most part, but Cusack's comedy work resulted in Hot Tub Time Machine not too long ago, so I'm interested to see what this duo can do together.
