Kevin Costner is Next to Join Quentin Tarantino's 'Django Unchained'
More big names for Quentin Tarantino's new spaghetti Western. Deadline is reporting that Oscar winning engineer/environmentalist/inventor and actor Kevin Costner has joined the cast of Tarantino's Django Unchained, which is already set to star Jamie Foxx as Django, as well as Leonardo DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz, Samuel Jackson and potentially Kerry Washington. Costner is currently "in negotiations" to play Ace Woody, the right-hand man of plantation/slave-owner Calvin Candie, DiCaprio's character. A bit odd to see Costner appearing as DiCaprio's henchman, but that's why I love Tarantino's unique casting for this movie.
At the moment, Kevin Costner is gearing up to play Jonathan 'Pa' Kent in Zack Snyder's Superman: Man of Steel, but Deadline says he's jumping into Django Unchained as soon as he finishes that. I haven't read the script myself, but they say "the roles that DiCaprio and Costner will play are every bit as sadistic as the one that Waltz played in Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds." I wouldn't expect anything less from Tarantino, which is exactly why I'm so intrigued by this casting, by putting two known/loved actors into sadistic roles.
