Thus far, expected to return to the Sly Stallone testosterone-o-rama known as The Expendables 2 are Terry Crews, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham, as well as Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger who will reprise their cameos from the first film with a somewhat larger presence. It wouldn't be an '80s/'90s action packed reunion without Jean-Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris, who will also be crushing skulls for the first time in TE2. But the latest to join the cast of the sequel is up-and-comer Liam Hemsworth, making him the young newbie in an ensemble of otherwise old-timers.

Variety got the scoop that The Hunger Games actor, and younger brother of Thor's Chris Hemsworth, will be co-starring the film as a sniper, but that's all we know about his role right now. We've also heard recent reports that Nicolas Cage and John Travolta would be joining the cast but that remains unconfirmed (although, if true, would likely cause computers everywhere to simultaneously explode due to an influx of awesomeness). Stallone himself also said that a couple of other actors might be in the mix when he told EW recently, "I like using people that had a moment and then maybe have fallen on some hard times and give them another shot. So we’re always looking for actors like Michael Biehn and Michael Pare. I like those kinds of guys." No official word on whether they have joined the cast thought.

Anything is possible this time around. Willis has stated that Stallone was "going for all the marbles this time." Whatever that means. Must be an old guy's expression. Stallone himself has even said the idea he's had for a sequel for quite some time is "quite radical." What would really be radical is if they actually went balls to the wall on this one and brought in everyone from the aforementioned cast to Steven Seagal to Danny Trejo to Mel Gibson to Hooch from Turner & Hooch. That would be a film that would live up to the insanity we expected but were unfortunately not given with the underwhelming The Expendables.

Of course there are some fresh eyes behind the camera with the sequel, as Simon West (Con Air, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, The Mechanic) is taking over the director's chair from Stallone, with a script from David Agosto and Ken Kaufman. Yes, the guy who wrote Curious George and Muppets from Space is apparently one of the best writers for The Expendables 2. Lionsgate has a release date set for August 17th, 2012 next year, and be sure to stay tuned for any developments.

Please, guys. Don't get your hopes up again. You do remember how bad the first one was, don't you?

This could go one of two cliched ways: Young "kid" that uses technology to solve problems while the old guys get hands on and say "THIS is how its done HAW HAW" (See: Live Free or Die Hard) or Villainous young "kid" that uses technology to destroy the old guys, while the old guys get hands on, kick his ass and say "THIS is how its done HAW HAW" Bleghhh
  • I liked the 1st movie.

Why not Kurt Russell and Danny Glover, maybe not so much Russell but Glover would be cool.

    about billy blank

Billy Blanks. Get it right. Probably the greatest African-American s#*tty action movie star of all time. Showdone is a cult classic and his cameo/bit role in The Last Boy Scout is a g*$ddamn classic! One of the most underrated lines/scenes in movie history. (Not one of the greats mind you, but still deserves credit)

Billy Blanks isn't in the last boy scout. that's Damon Wayans and Bruce Willis

FAIL. We don't need no younguns here. Just certified action heroes. Let one whipper snapper in and your opening the doors for random failed models turned into wooden actors. It's a slippery slope my friends.

I hope in the sequel, there will be more amazing fight scenes. It would be good if they also include Jackie Chan, Steven Seagal, Michael Jai White, Kurt Angle and Bill Goldberg.
    • VALVG
kurt angle are u fucking kidding
  • Wow, lol they add any more names on the cast there won't be any room for any pictures on the posters. just make it so there are no extras, every last solider in this is an action star.

Although, I am not familiar with this guy's work, I'm so glad it wasn't Taylor Lautner who got cast! The cast is EPIC and I believe that director Simon West will blow us away. The 1st flick was a kick-ass time at the movies!! I loved it! Yes, this sequel can only improve upon the original.... I really hate the condescending tone of the various articles, including this one, about "age". Big deal!!! Sly and company STILL KICK ASS and AGE is nothing but a number!!! All in all, we will all be in line on opening day,, midnight showing! ....I'd also like to see MICHAEL DUDIKOFF cast in this, as well.
  • DanTheMan
4 Michaels and a Ken please please! Michaels Pare, Ironside, Biehn and Dudikoff and thrown in the original wise guy - Ken Wahl.
  • DanTheMan
How about the "I came here to chew bubble gum and kick ass....and I'm all out of bubble gum" guy - RODDY PIPER!!!
