'Limitless' Director Neil Burger Will Helm 'Uncharted: Drake's Fortune'

Neil Burger / Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

Back in May we learned that director David O. Russell had left the video game adaptation Uncharted: Drake's Fortune because of creative differences with the studio. Plenty of fans of the game are probably pleased with his departure, but now they can judge the new director who has just joined the project. Variety reports Limitless director Neil Burger is currently in talks to take over the video game adaptation at Sony Pictures. Apparently producers Avi Arad, Ari Arad, Charles Roven and Alex Gartner all liked his new take on the film, but it doesn't look likely that Mark Wahlberg will stick around to star in the film.

Honestly, with Burger just recently working with Bradley Cooper, I have to admit that he wouldn't too bad as the video game hero Nathan Drake. Of course, I'm sure fans still want Nathan Fillion, who seems perfect for the role, to step up and star in the film, and that would be just fine by me. Either way, the project is a high priority for Sony as the game franchise have sold nearly six million copies, so there's plenty of potential for some big box office numbers. Hopefully we'll find out what Burger's take on the video game entails sooner than later, so stay tuned as this project develops.

fillion is a tv actor at best why fans wanted him makes no sense and fillion is 40 and looks it bradley cooper is a far better choice

I do not know what the deal with Fillion is. Most people think he is perfect for every role. Can someone please explain this appeal? Has a shot lived TV show, firefly, made him the greatest actor of all time? If he was perfect for any movie roles he would be in the movies, not on that dumb TV show

If you have a) watched Firefly and b) played Uncharted, you would understand why people make the connection. Drake's voice actor (Nolan North) sounds EXACTLY like Fillion, and the character has an eerily similar temperament to characters Fillion has played before. That said, I don't think he's right for the part. As others have pointed out, he's much too old by now, and doesn't look like Drake at all.

and count Firefly ended with a movie called 'Serenity' which really was uncharted with a ship count with the fact Nolan North personally said he did the voice with Fillion in mind, i think the only factor against him is age but if you cant get anyone else younger with the same personality and NOT under another studios contract...oh well ...

Well this is good, marky mark just doesnt fit, think they need to find a no name actor for Drake.

fillion is perfect casting, but he is in no shape for the role and would not be big enough box office draw. but whatever happens just make it funny
  • Why not Shya Labeouf?
    • equustel
Because he is currently Hollywood's biggest asshat? Not to mention way too young.

    David Boreanez? Maybe?
    • Jericho
      under a rival studio contract....

Bradley Cooper woulb be perfect, he's got the same rogue'ish nature as Nathan and rugged good looks that I'm hell jealous of not having!
  • Ron
Remember once-upon-a-time Hugh Jackman was rumored for the role?

      wouldnt mind seeing that

Maybe if the movie is set in a timeline after games, Fillion would be the perfect choice. If we're going for a youngish Drake then my picks would be: 1. Chris Evans (I think he could pull off the humor and action we've come to know and love from Nathan Drake) 2. Jensen Ackles (Has the tough guy/funnyman persona. Love him on TV's Supernatural) 3. James Roday (We know he's funny and he may prove to be a good action hero. Who knows?) 4. Bradley Cooper (He seems to have some charisma. Who knows?)

I agree about James Roday and Jensen Ackles... James seems like a younger version but i think he would be fantastic... or Fillion if he hit the gym...I would also not be opposed to david boreanaz, he isn't that old yet but he would be my last choice...yet still a choice.

Why not give it to Jeremy Renner he seems to take every single franchise coming outsoon. Avengers, Mission Impossible, Bourne Legacy, Hawkeye...God i hate this guy
    • Jericho
hes the same age as Nathan...
  • Liquidjackal
Has no one else noticed that the director: Neil Burger looks just like Nathan Drake but gray. I thought I'd just point that out :) But I think Bradley Cooper would be great!
  • Rooneyman
This is stupid, I've Played every Uncharted Game and I can't wait to Play the 3rd when it comes out in November, I just don't understand the Fillion part. Other than the same stupid Hair thing both have going, they're nothing Alike.   Bradley Cooper is fine with me. However Jensen Ackles would nail the role perfectly, he has the look, the same physique and the Exact same personality.  NO more Fillion boast, I barely even see that guy and I'm already sick of him.

I'm with Rooneyman, I don't understand the Fillion obsession. And I watched Firefly. Uncharted is my favorite game series as well. New suggestion:Geoff Stults for the part He played a character similar to Drake on a back-door pilot buried in a BONES episode called The Finder (season 6). He's an unknown, but totally capable. Consider it.
