Mackie, Cooper Join the Cast of 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter'
Two more actors lined up for Timur Bekmambetov's Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which starts shooting this year. Deadline reports that Anthony Mackie, from The Hurt Locker, We Are Marshall, Night Catches Us and The Adjustment Bureau, is in talks to star as Will - Abe's best friend. Additionally, Variety reports that Dominic Cooper, seen in The History Boys, Mamma Mia, An Education, The Devil's Double, has been cast in the mysterious role of Henry Sturgess, which Joaquin Phoenix was in the running for, but didn't get. We already know that a few weeks ago Benjamin Walker was cast as Honest Abe in this. Read on!
The Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter story kicks off with the revelation that Lincoln's mother was killed by a supernatural creature, which fueled his passion to crush vampires and their slave-owning helpers. The book depicts the 16th US president as an axe-throwing highly trained vampire killer. With shooting already set to begin this year and a June 22nd, 2012 release from 20th Century Fox, we expect to hear a lot more about this. Dominic Cooper's character Henry is Abe Lincoln's mentor - a "mysterious ageless guy" who teaches Abe to kill bloodsuckers. Sounds like great roles for both of these actors, who really need something like this to break out. I'm glad Bekmambetov is casting lesser known, but talented actors in this. Stay tuned!
