Towards the beginning of the year, there were rumblings that David O. Russell might step up to rewrite and direct the gestating adaptation of Two Guns based on Steven Grant's graphic novel of the same name which Vince Vaughn had been attached to since 2008. Now Heat Vision has word that Mark Wahlberg is entering final negotiations to star in the film. However, you'd think that since Wahlberg and Russell have previously collaborated on The Fighter, I Heart Huckabees and Three Kings, but Russell has stepped away from the project due to scheduling conflicts and Vaughn is no longer attached to star either. Read on!
Now the studio is focusing on the previous draft of the script by Blake Masters which tells the story of a DEA agent and an undercover Naval Intelligence officer who are unwittingly investigating each other and who steal mob money for the good guys. The duo realizes later that the mob actually got them to steal $50 million from the CIA. Universal is looking to start shooting this winter, and since Russell will still be busy shooting The Silver Linings Playbook with Bradley Cooper (a project that coincidentally lost Mark Wahlberg as a cast member), and that explains why he can't take this action thriller. The project sounds fun, but I'm holding out to find out who will end up in the director's chair now.
