I, Alex Cross / Matthew Fox

Back in February we heard that Rob Cohen would be directing Tyler Perry as author James Patterson's detective/psychologist character in an adaptation of the novel I, Alex Cross. Now Deadline reports "Lost" star Matthew Fox will play the assassin that Cross will go head-to-head with in the film. Fox hasn't been seen on the big screen since 2008 with his turns in Speed Racer and Vantage Point, and this character will be unlike anything he's done before. Fox plays Michael Sullivan, a ruthless man who kills for money and thrills and ends up killing Cross' wife after the detective thwarts one of his murders. Sounds gruesome.

Then Sullivan and Cross must go head-to-head in a battle that may or may not end in bloodshed considering Sullivan, also known as the Butcher of Sligo, is a constant villain in Patterson's novels. Ed Burns will be long for the ride too as Saving Private Ryan actor has also been cast as Cross' partner Tommy Kane. The project doesn't have a home yet, but at least three studios are in the running to make a distribution deal. As someone who's not a big fan of Tyler Perry's work in front of or behind the camera, I have to say that I'm intrigued to see what he can do with a role like this. Also it's good to see Fox back at work after the conclusion of "Lost." What do you think?

There are two different Ed Burns, one is a former cop and teacher from Baltimore who wrote for The Wire. The other one is the actor. PS. You should watch The Wire.

This sounds great! Fox is a great actor and I think he'll make a great villain. Whatever happened to Billy Smoke?

Fox as a villain does sound like something i would like to see him try on, but not in this production. I think anyone decent should steer clear of this. Ditching Elba and Twohy was in my opinion just a terrible decision.

I'd rather see him in Billy Smoke.

If this movie is based on Alex Cross' battle with Michael Sullivan, then it is not based on "I, Alex Cross". It is actually based on an earlier book, simply titled "Cross".

I was trading up on this Alex Cross character and it sounds really interesting. I would think that, with all the material available, they would be adapting into a TV show. Specially since that's one of Perry's favores mediums. This could be good. Like a PG-13 Dexter. Also, great Job on correcting the post; I was just about to comment that Ed Burns is not Ed Burns from The Wire.
  • Can't get past Perry playing Cross to even think about Fox in this...

Matthew Fox is the man!! Can't wait to see the rest of the Lost cast take on feature film roles. I don't need to see him in something this dark though.
  • matthew fox... and a straight watch for me 😀
  • I've never read any of James Patterson's books so I have no opinion one way or the other on whether I think this will be any good or not. I'm a little surprised that Tyler Perry was cast as the main protagonist. Nothing against him, you understand, it's just that isn't he mostly a comedian? I'm having trouble picturing him in a straightforward dramatic role. Oh, well...*shrugs*... Anyway, what I'm most excited about is the news that Matthew has finally gotten himself another role - of *any* kind. TV or movies, I wouldn't have cared. I miss seeing him act. Not exactly happy he's playing an assassin, but I guess he doesn't want to get typecast as not being able to do other kinds of roles besides the hero type.
