McG

Since Joseph McGinty Nichol just doesn't sounds like the name of a high octane action director, that's why we have his alter ego McG to deliver films like Charlie's Angels, Terminator Salvation and occasionally something a more low key like We Are Marshall. Now it sounds like the filmmaker will take on another less over-the-top story as Deadline reports McG is in talks with Summit Entertainment to direct a new cop drama called Puzzle Palace. The pitch was picked up back in March of 2010, and while no story details have been revealed, the script from David Guggenheim grabbed mid-six figures and had multiple bidders.

Guggenheim is of course the man behind the forthcoming thriller Safe House starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds. The script was on the Black List a little while back, and if it was good enough to bring in big name talent like that, I'm sure we can expect another solid script with Puzzle Palace. And honestly, while McG has consistently disappointed me, even as he takes on more serious action fare with the Terminator franchise, maybe he can pull a Brett Ratner and deliver something akin to his turn behind the camera with Red Dragon. It would be a nice change of pace since This Means War just looks like more of the same.
