Must Watch: Gritty & Thrilling Official Trailer for 'Monopoly' Movie
"I thought this was just a game!" Last we heard about the long-gestating adaptation of the popular board game Monopoly from Ridley Scott was that it might be preparing for release in 2012. However, with Scott busy on Prometheus, it doesn't sound like we'll see the film hit the big screen anytime soon. Thankfully, Funny or Die and Half Day Today Films have put together their own take on the project that takes all the familiar aspects of the popular board game and gives them a wicked thriller edge. Using the game pieces and revelation of Rich Uncle Pennybags being an evil crazy man makes this just a solid, hilarious fake trailer.
Here's the official Monopoly trailer from the folks at Funny or Die:
As for the real movie, the concept sounds just as trippy as this trailer since it's supposed to follow a guy who ends up in a vibrant Monopoly City where he has to defeat the Parker Brothers in the signature game. Producer Frank Beddor says, "It tries to incorporate all the iconic imagery - a sports car pulls up, there's someone on a horse, someone pushing a wheelbarrow - and rich Uncle Pennybags, you're going to see him as the maître d' at the restaurant and he's the buggy driver and the doorman at the opera." Honestly, I'm satisfied with this trailer from Funny or Die and hope we leave the real Monopoly movie dead in the water.
