The Hobbit Video Blog

Time to geek out! Peter Jackson has just posted the second full 10-minute video blog for The Hobbit on his Facebook, and it's another must watch, just like the wonderful first one. This time, Peter brings in Andy Serkis, who plays Gollum but is also Second Unit Director, to guide us through their latest updates. They just finished 54 days of shooting, the first block of three, and have 200 more days left. This is all fascinating, especially about how he's in pre-, post- and full production at the same time. It's just so amazing to watch these video blogs, especially because we're still 16 months away from even seeing the film! Keep ’em coming!

Watch the second video blog for The Hobbit below, and head to his Facebook page to see it in HD:

In a hole in the ground there lived a Hobbit… The Hobbit, being directed by Peter Jackson in two separate parts, is set in Middle-earth 60 years before Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, which Jackson and his filmmaking team brought to the big screen in a trilogy ten years ago. The Hobbit films, with screenplays by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, Guillermo del Toro and Peter Jackson, will be shot consecutively in digital 3D using the latest camera and stereo technology. The Hobbit follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, played by Martin Freeman, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. The first part of The Hobbit hits theaters December 2012.

Surely one of the greatest jobs in the world, especially the location hunt 🙂

Yea I know man! I love the helicopters. That's how you know your budget is nearly limitless - on location scouting, you fly in 5 helicopters.

You could say I was more than reasonably excited by that clip. Really good to see all the crew in there too.

Hopefully this will NOT be LOTR all over again. When I read The Hobbit I thought it had a decidedly lighter feel to it, I really hope Peter Jackson actually gets that on film.

Not a fan of lott like others but just love the scale of what they undertake. Andy Serkis is fast becoming my hero!

My take away from the video: Peter Jackson scouts location with FIVE helicopters, but uses a wee little point and shoot.  Hehe but seriously, these production videos are amazing.  Couldn't be more excited for these films, but I'm enjoying the lead up.
