Nicolas Cage

Let's be honest for a second. Nicolas Cage might be one of the better known actors in the industry, but over the past few years, his penchant for making four or five films a year has resulted in some serious disasters like Season of the Witch, and Trespass doesn't look like the most promising thriller. Thankfully Kick-Ass delivered in 2010 and Cage shined as Big Daddy. Now Cage will be heading to Germany for Black Butterfly the first English-language film from the European based production banner Bavariapool. The film follows a reclusive author named Paul (Cage) who befriends a drifter with fatal consequences. Read on!

THR says the film is based on a French TV thriller called Papillon Noir, and prodution is set to begin early next year on location in Eastern Germany. Cage's work in thrillers has never really impressed me that much, and I feel like this might be just another paycheck for the actor rather than a project that he's really passionate about. German actress Veronica Ferres is also attached to start in the film. Considering the original film had a female author in the story, I'm wondering if this time it's flip-flopped to have a woman take on the role of this dangerous drifter. That sounds like it could be intriguing. Thoughts?
