Paramount Picks Up 'Mustache Riders' & 'First Man' for Knoxville
Any fans of the Jackass guys on this site? Paramount is hot on two new projects that Deadline is reporting they've acquired following the $170M success of Jackass 3D last year. The first is a pitch called First Man, which is being written by Matt Spicer and Max Winkler, Winkler being the same who directed that indie comedy Ceremony; the two have written numerous other scripts like The Adventurers Handbook. Knoxville is set to star in that, but Paramount also wants him and his Jackass crew to take over a small-time crooks project called Mustache Riders and let them do their own stunts for it. That could be pretty badass to see!
In First Man, Knoxville would play a man whose wife is elected president. A natural hellraiser, Knoxville behaved himself during her presidential campaign, only to find the dynamic of their relationship completely changed once he moves into the White House and becomes First Man. So he gets back to his old rowdy self. Dickhouse Entertainment and Priya Swaminathan are attached to produce. This sounds like an old school Adam Sandler-style 90's comedy where goofy shit just happens for the hell of it and he somehow gets away with it - damn this could be fun as hell. I hope this project comes together soon! Maybe Winkler will direct?
As for Mustache Riders, or rather Mustache Rides as I think it's supposed to be called (ya, you know what it means). IMDb has a listing for Mustache Rides with Broken Lizard's Jay Chandrasekhar (Super Troopers, Beerfest) set to direct from a script by Robbie Pickering, Paul Soter & Jase Ricci. It's about three small-time crooks who set off on an adventure to find a buried treasure with a grizzled old outlaw. Willie Nelson will play the "outlaw" and Jackass' Bam Margera, Ryan Dunn and Knoxville will all star, doing their own stunts. Broken Lizard, Gerber Pictures and Dickhouse are producing. Both of these films sound great, I'm actually excited to see them come together, they could be fun. We'll let you know when there's more. Sound good?
