Pixar Announces Their Two, Still Untitled, 2013/2014 Movies at D23

August 20, 2011

I'm attending the Disney D23 Expo down in Anaheim today and their big movie presentation was held early this morning, including a look at most of Disney's major movies between this year and next. During the Pixar portion of the panel, Disney Animation CCO John Lasseter introduced their line-up including the Planes spin-off, Brave, Monsters University, and finally, their two movies following University (due out June 2013). Unfortunately, both of their next projects are still untitled, but we at least have some info on them. One will be about dinosaurs, coming 2013, the other will be set "inside the mind" due summer 2014.

The first new Pixar project they officially unveiled is tentatively titled The Untitled Pixar Movie About Dinosaurs (that was even in the logo) as they don't have a title (they want to announce) yet. Directing is Pixar veteran Bob Peterson, who co-directed Up and has even voiced some iconic characters in their past films, including Roz in Monsters Inc, Mr. Ray in Finding Nemo, and Dug the Dog in Up. The movie will be set in a world where the comet that killed the dinosaurs missed, and they survived. That's all they revealed plus one concept piece bit showing a long-necked brontosaurus, but no other characters. As far as we know, this is the same project rumored about years ago with early leaked concept art, so that is now the first look.

The other new Pixar project they revealed, set for summer 2014, is tentatively The Untitled Pixar Movie That Takes You Inside the Mind. Both of these are original projects from Pixar and this is the one that Pete Docter, director of Monsters Inc and Up, is working on next. They only explained that the setting of this one would be "inside the mind", and we'd find out what goes on when people make decisions and how the mind works. Interesting, very interesting concept. No characters were revealed though, so details are still vague on this newly announced Inside the Mind project. But it's from Pete Docter, it should be great!

As a die-hard Pixar fan, I'm very excited to see that we've finally got some fantastic original stories in the works coming from certified Pixar geniuses. We don't really have a full idea of where these movies are headed or what will happen in them, but I'm intrigued nonetheless. Until then, we've got two more exciting movies on the way, with Brave and Monsters University already getting revealed, too. We'll have more on Monsters later, as I'm currently waiting in line to get into their full presentation on this prequel specifically.

Finally! I didn't think Up was too great after they met the villain but still have faith in Petersen and Docter to deliver something special.

Same here. "Up" was good when it was all about the old man an the boy. When they met all the talking dogs and the villain it just became like every other kids' movies out there.

A 'Planes spin-off'? Really? Come on Pixar, enough with the talking cars and all that BS. Cars and Cars 2 are by far the worst Pixar films, we don't need another one with talking Planes. The rest of their projects in development sound good though.

thats not pixar though, thats just disney

You have a point, but I have to say I fully sympathize with R_G's position.  The only Pixar films I've fully enjoyed have been The Incredibles and Up.  This cutesy crap with the talking cars and stuff has been milked to death.  I'd enjoy seeing Pixar handle plots more along the lines of what comes out of, say, the people at Ghibli.

But that's the franchise that gives them the most money isn't it? With all the merchandising they sell. Kids love "cars", they don't care about plot or other things you might enjoy in movies.

A Pixar movie about dinosaurs... I think I need to change my pants.

Hm, could be one of those "shrink-people-a-lot-and send-them-inside-someones-body" movies?
    • Maybe... Though Pete Docter introduced it as, we've visited many worlds at Pixar, now we're going to visit one we've never been to before - set entirely inside the mind! Makes me feel like we'll have unique characters in the mind, not so much people shrunk down. Not sure though!

You know who they should bring to direct a movie with Pixar? Spielberg. He always loved animation (see his 70's interview about'em and the rumors that he would do an animation out of Harry Potter) and he has a very similar vision to the Pixar guys.

Spielberg already has Dreamworks. Outside of some insane corporate takeover I don't see him working with Pixar....

Right now my most anticipated animated movie is "Wreck-it Ralph", I love the premise. What do you think of it Alex?

i bet the mind movie is going to be like those old cartoons where theres an office with little people running around filing papers to make decisions
    • Cheezy C
oh man i hope its not like that cuz that reminds me of "meet Dave" i'm a huge pixar fan, so i have faith in them
