Rutger Hauer Cast as Van Helsing in Dario Argento's 'Dracula 3D'
We're catching up on some stories since it's fairly slow this week. First up, both Twitch and ComingSoon.it are reporting that badass Dutch actor Rutger Hauer is going to play Van Helsing, the legendary vampire hunter, in Italian director Dario Argento's Dracula 3D. The project was first announced last summer as a "faithful translation of the Bram Stoker novel" the Italian horror master would shoot in 3D. I don't know about everyone else, but my interest in this just quadrupled knowing Hauer's going to be huntin' vamps in an Argento flick. He kicked ass as the Hobo With a Shotgun and I'm sure he'll be great to see in this, too.
The sites say that production is scheduled to begin in May and it sounds like he's officially on-board as this is coming straight out of Argento's people in Italy. ComingSoon also uses the term "professor Van Helsing" and I'm not sure if that hints at it being a more modern take or, as originally described, a more gothic and faithful adaptation. Other than these basic details, there's not much else we know about Argento's Dracula 3D. However, there's a very cheesy promo poster floating around, but that's it. Argento last directed Giallo with Adrien Brody, but is most well known for movies like Suspiria, Deep Red, Inferno and Two Evil Eyes. We'll keep an eye out for updates on Dracula 3D. As for Hauer, happy to see him join just about anything.
