Shia LaBeouf to Become 'A Giant' in Quirky Love Story from Gil Kenan

Since yesterday brought the news that franchise star Shia LaBeouf would not be returning for what looks to be back-to-back Transformers sequels with Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay returning in their respective roles and executive producer and director, that means a different project will have his talents instead. Variety has word that LaBeouf is attached to a quirky love story tentatively titled A Giant. The film, which will be written and directed by Monster House helmer Gil Kenan, will see the Eagle Eye actor playing a 20-foot-tall man-child who forms a relationship with the pretty girl who lives next door. Read on!
The young girl in question has yet to be cast, but the strange love story makes sense with her being broke and distraught from a series of terrible relationships and moving back home to reconnect with her brother. The fantastical nature of the love story sounds like something Tim Burton might craft, and almost feels like it could have the same tone as Big Fish, but I'm just speculating here. As for Kenan's directing, that only intrigues me more since the guy has some genuine talent as was evidenced with Monster House and City of Ember (even if it didn't perform at the box office, the film has the same kind of adventure from films of the past like The Goonies). Kenan almost helmed Green Lantern until City of Ember flopped, so he's due for something big, and A Giant could be just that. Stay tuned as more information becomes available.
