Snyder Talks About Being Excited to Bring Us a 'Modern' Superman
Now that we have Henry Cavill set to play the Man of Steel/Clark Kent, director Zack Snyder is getting closer and closer to starting production, with casting finalizing soon and pre-production already underway. Snyder spoke with SFX Magazine (via ComingSoon) recently and actually opened up just a bit about the kind of Superman we'll see in Superman: Man of Steel come 2012. "My feeling about Superman is that I've been a fan of the character for a long time. But the question for me was always, 'What can you do with Superman in a modern world?'" Then Chris Nolan and David Goyer finally came up with the perfect answer.
While Snyder is directing, Nolan is producing as it was Goyer's idea that first got him excited in developing.
"My feeling about Superman is that I've been a fan of the character for a long time. But the question for me was always, 'What can you do with Superman in a modern world?' And I think the amazing thing that Chris and David have created, that I'm working on now, and the reason why I was like, 'Yeah, I’ll do that,' was that they found that in him. They found the why in him. That's the exciting part for me."
That's not all he says either. When asked about how this might be different than previous iterations, "I can't really talk about that without being kind of specific" was Zack's first response, but then he added: "But I can say I think Superman needs to be physical." Interesting answer. Many fans have wanted them to get much more modern and/or edgier with Superman, especially as a way of differentiating it from the other versions of past, and maybe that's what he's planning. We still don't know what exactly this idea is that has a more "modern" or even more "physical" edge this time, but I'm extremely curious to know. Snyder has definitely piqued my interests, so we'll keep listening. You can expect more Superman news will be on the way soon!
