Sony Wants to Make 'Sex Tape' with Reese Witherspoon & Jason Segel
No, Sony Pictures isn't getting into the business of celebrity pornography yet. However, they are looking to make a new comedy which they picked up for seven figures from Kate Angelo, the writer behind the Jennifer Lopez romantic comedy The Back-Up Plan. While the talent on the page doesn't instill much confidence, Deadline reports Sony wants Jason Segel and Reese Witherspoon will lead the film simply called Sex Tape, the story about a married couple who take a night off from their kids, decide to get adventurous and spice things up by making a private sex tape only to wake up the next morning and find that it's gone.
While no deals are in place, and it sounds like the stars are merely the top choices for the comedy, the studio is already in talks with director Nicholas Stoller, the man behind comedies like Forgetting Sarah Marshall (one of the best romantic comedies of at least the last decade) and Get Him to the Greek. That means it should be too hard to get Segel on board, but this would be the first time Witherspoon has worked with these guys before. Apparently offers are getting ready to go out, so we should have more news on this project soon. If it turns out like Sony's comedy Bad Teacher, the both the studio and audiences will be pleased. Here's hoping the search for the sex tape doesn't turn out to be too ridiculous though.
