Sound Off: David Gordon Green's 'Your Highness' - Your Thoughts?

Now that you've seen it, what did you think? Get your quest on. Arriving in theaters this weekend is Your Highness, another comedy creation of Danny McBride & Ben Best, directed by David Gordon Green. Starring Danny McBride and James Franco, it's basically a contemporary homage to the adventure movies from the 80's with some bits of humor thrown in. How is it? Is it actually funny at all? Do Zooey Deschanel and/or Natalie Portman bring anything else into the mix? Is it an entertaining stoner comedy at the least? To fuel the fire (spoilers may be included) I had high expectations for Your Highness and thought it was only okay. It wasn't so much a stoner comedy as it was just an adventure movie about embarking on a quest. I'm not sure why, but McBride's humor didn't really work and there wasn't enough good comedy. The focus was too much on the story and their quest at hand, which just wasn't funny enough to make up an entire "comedy." I just wanted something entertaining that was a throw back to those 80's "quest" movies, but it was more of a cheesy farce that lacked humor. Solid, but definitely not the stoner classic I was hoping to see.

This was a terrible movie, my work college was in it as it was shot in Belfast and it was nice to see the Giants Causeway in it just a few miles down the road from me. It was to crude to the point where it was not funny. The acting was pretty dull, it just lacked humour which is it's main content avoid, don't waist your money unless you want to see Natalie Portman in a g-string , the only noteworthy part of the movie....

There is no big deal Most of people thought and still believe that Pineapple Express + Superbad + Observe and Report and such low comedies were and still are a great movies ... !!! as I am watching my rating for these movies 5/10 and less than 5 .. I know now that most of those who rate these movies were people who have no idea what comedy is and maybe they were drunk watching these movies ! No disrespect but when a movie like Superbad got 7.7/10 and a movie like Dark Knight got 8.9/10 and the deference between both movies are almost one point I am just speechless how these people are rating and on what drug they are !!!??? are they really know how to give ratting to a movie !??? Just to make it clear 5/10 mean for me : If you watch this movie or not there is no big deal this movie will not give u anything to remember it with and it is just a wast of time .. and if you get enough time to loss then go and watch it .. because in the end some times human beings need to watch something to let the time go bye ... something that make them not think and just tickle their brain ... I knew these guys are just wasting our times .. and they work for money not to bring something new to the audience ... they wrote these screenplays while they are high trying to make fun of the brain of the audience !!! I may sound sharp and edgy but at least I am telling you what I think about those group who make such lame movies ... and in the end there is some questions remain : If Pineapple Express got 7.1/10 ... and superbad got 7.7/10 ... in the other side movies like Dark Knight got 8.9/10 ... does IMDb users know who to use the ratting vote !!!??? does they make a deference between what is good movie and what is bad ? what is make them thing and show them good stuff .. and the others who make them lazy and show them some dirty jokes ???? Hope you understand my words in the right way .. I am not trying to show my self or tell you I know more ... All what I am saying is that you can understand what the real movie is about ! ... I always got negative answers in the present times when I write a comment or advice but after some months most of you will understand what I meant !!! .. Believe it or not .. all what I want that no one spent money to by tickets for a movie that don't deserve .. I learned this from Bulgaria and from the movies they make it in Bulgaria ... they want to steal your money .. They use you ... your eyes .. your time .. your expectation ... your money ... Hope the audience will get more aware what they will watch .. and what they will waste there time and money for .. nothing ells ... Thanks for your time reading it . ------------------- * Seth Rogen and * Judd Apatow : I know he is not in the movie and he have nothing to do with this movie .. but again he is one of the group ... he have the same why of acting and making lame jokes and using drugs as a symbol for his "revolutionary " comedy !!! ( Which I believe he is one of the worst comedy actors in the history of Hollywood ) .. And it looks like they are all student of ( Judd Apatow ) who I believe he is not as intelligent as most of people think ... !!! and if you take a look to his writing and directing you will know he is not that good .. !!! and as much as we go thought time it will appear more clearly.

Comparing Superbad and The Dark Knight is the dumbest thing you can do. Those are completely different movies. Rate TDK as a comedy, not very funny. As an overall movie, TDK is better, but depending on the genre and mood someone is in, Superbad can easily be a better option. Hey, you guys want to watch Shawshank Redemption or 40 Year Old Virgin?! Well, the better movie overall is Shawshank Redemption, but 40 Year Old Virgin is hilarious and great in its own ways. If you can't see that, then you have no idea what you're talking about and you wasted ALOT of time typing all that BS. Get out more.

I saw it last night. There were times that I laughed really hard. (Like when you grab a little ferry, crush it, grind it, then snort it) Then there were times were the comedy was very subtle. (like when Portman says beaver) It was a dumb movie but bigger in scale then I thought but it still made me laugh.

Am I the only one who's feeling that todays' comedies are getting to be as formulatic as the TV show Three's Company? Seems like they are at the point where each are saying similar jokes, doing similar gags with similar actors in similar situations in different costumes. Take Hangover 2 for example, even the preview is designed to reassure you that these same whacky old guys are doing the same old whacky things in a slightly different way so you are sure to go. Due to the fact that my brother owns a chainer of cinemas here in NY, I get to see any movie I want for free the night before they open, but nowadays it's getting hard to even sit through these movies even they they are free. But in saying that, it's not just comedies, most of todays' movies are as predictable and formulatic as TV re-runs.

I liked it, while it wasnt my favorite comedy of all time, it doesnt even come close to pineapple express. Im glad i paid Matinee prices tho and didnt go at night

It was funny. But honestly I should have saved my money and waited till it was on HBO. All the good parts were in the trailer.

One of the worst comedies i have seen in recent memory.Fortunatly,there were some technical difficulties during our screening that allowed myself and everyone one else who barely laughed at all to receive a pass for another movie,thank god for that.I can imagine some people finding it funny and if they do,so be it.I shouldnt have been surprised since this movie was apparently created by throwing out a random movie title and imagining what the story would be.Dont bother,just flush.

Despite all the haters, I really enjoyed this movie. I thought it was pretty funny, but I would say this is more of a stoner movie. Its silly and doesn't take it self too seriously, and if you can understand that point, maybe you can get in to it for what it is. I would recommend this movie to all fellow stoners, and lastly I have three words for you. Natalie Portman's ass.
