Stallone Starring in Wayne Kramer-Directed Action Movie 'Headshot'
It has been formally announced by IM Global today (via THR) that Sylvester Stallone will star as a New Orleans hitman who teams with a New York City cop in a new action project called Headshot. As far as we know, this is the adaptation of Matz's graphic novel of the same name, which we covered as news a few years ago. The press release doesn't mention Matz at all, but it has the same plot and everything else. At the helm is director Wayne Kramer (The Cooler, Running Scared) working from a script by Alessandro Camon (The Bandit K., The Messenger). Kramer begins shooting in May in Louisiana and New York. More ahead!
IM Global CEO Stuart Ford comments: "Headshot is exactly the type of fast-paced, universally themed project that suits our business model. Sylvester Stallone is an international icon and we're really excited to be in business with him." It's all about the money, isn't it? In the movie, Stallone's character teams with a young NYPD detective in a high-stakes investigation that leads from the dingy back alleys of New Orleans all the way to the power corridors of Washington, D.C. The unlikely duo, brought together by vicious murders, take on all who stand in their way, and are willing to sacrifice everything to exact revenge. The plot in Matz's Headshot is the same: "Follows an unlikely alliance made between a cop and a hitman once each watches his partner die. They in turn seek revenge and discover they have a shared enemy and much in common despite being on opposite sides of the law." No other roles have been cast yet, so stick around for additional news.
I'm surprised to see Stallone jumping into another role so quickly, especially for something that he's not also directing. I thought I remember him saying he was getting close to retiring... give or take a few more movies he wanted to direct (like The Expendables). Maybe he's back in the action movie game again? IM Global will be taking Headshot to Berlin to sell at the European Film Market this month. I really hope this is awesome, I'd love to see another great Stallone action flick, though with the way Expendables turned out, who knows.
