Sundance 2011 Kicks Off Tonight & Our Coverage Begins Today!

January 20, 2011

Sundance Film Festival

Another year, another Sundance Film Festival, but I absolutely love this fest, so despite all the cold and snow, I'm always happy to return. I'll be attending the fest for my 5th year in a row, along with our writer Ethan Anderton, attending Sundance for his first time, which is always exciting. I always imagine I'll see as much as I can before the fest, but when I get here and start trudging through the snow I'm reminded why it gets harder every year to see five films every last day. We'll also be providing interviews and video reviews and more, so expect lots of Sundance coverage for the next few week as well all of our normal coverage, too.

Sundance kicks off today, January 20th, and lasts for a full 10 days until January 30th; Ethan and I will be returning home on February 1st, so we've got a long ways to go. Some of the films I'm looking forward to seeing are Margin Call, Cedar Rapids, Win Win, Hobo with a Shotgun, The Troll Hunter, The Cinema Hold Up, the NY Times Page One doc, Perfect Sense (watch a trailer) and Kevin Smith's Red State. If anyone has any suggestions for more coverage they'd like to see, let us know. We look forward to bringing you some of the best Sundance coverage we can yet again!

For all updates from Sundance, bookmark:
Our Sundance 2011 RSS feed:
Alex's Twitter: @firstshowing / Ethan's Twitter: @Ethan_Anderton

We'll be updating the most from those two Twitter accounts above, so if you're looking for instant feedback on movies or more immediate coverage during the festival, follow both of those. And for informational and reference purposes, we're staying at the same condo as Peter (@slashfilm) and Germain (@GermainLussier) from SlashFilm, so you may be hearing about those folks in our articles (since we're living with them for 10 days!). We hope you enjoy our coverage of Sundance 2011 as much as we always enjoy bringing it to you!

    * I should just get one! Why can't I edit my comments?!
    • You CAN edit comments, click the "Edit" button, everyone has access to it.

I know that. But when I press the edit button I just get a blank box, without my original text.
        • Hmm that sounds like an issue with your web browser. Make sure you have the latest updates and the latest version of Javascript and Adobe Flash installed. Also, if you're not using Firefox or Google Chrome, you should be using one of those.

Because of a horrible 2010 at the box office, Manka Bros. will not be attending the festival this year - according to the Chairman & CEO...
    • I don't understand? Is this a joke? What is this about?
      • Anonymous
No joke - they aren't attending.
        • But what does it have to do with us... or anything at all...? Why did you leave this comment here?
          • Anonymous
Manka Bros. is a movie company that buys movies and isn't attending - I thought it was newsworthy in a general topic about Sundance. That's all.

Sundance was amazing last year. I wish I could go this year.

Good list. I am really into Margin Call, Cedar Rapids, and Troll Hunter. I also am interested in Salvation Blvd, with Pierce Brosnan, Greg Kinnear, Jennifer Connelly, Marisa Tomei and of all people, Jim looks like it'll be awesome or really suck. Kind of got a Big Lebowski-ish feel from the writeup.
