#Super8Secret Revealed: Early Screenings - We're Hosting One in LA!

June 7, 2011

It's time. We're very excited to announce/reveal that the big "Super8Secret" everyone has been buzzing about on on Twitter and around the web recently is a surprise series of early screenings for Super 8 that J.J. Abrams has decided to host in 12 various cities late tomorrow night. Even better, FirstShowing is partnering with SlashFilm to host the screening in Los Angeles at the Arclight and you can find out the password and info below on how to RSVP for free. We've been following this movie since the early days and we're excited for everyone to finally get the chance to see it! Read on for all the details about the screenings!

J.J. Abrams wants you to be the FIRST to see Super 8, and he has chosen FirstShowing and SlashFilm to show it to you in LOS ANGELES!! Please join us for a free early screening on Wednesday, June 8th at 10:00pm at the Arclight Hollywood. There will be free popcorn and soda, and a chance to win a Super 8 prize pack! To RSVP, please go to and enter the password MINT. No purchase is necessary.

In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth - something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.

Directed by J.J. Abrams from his original script, the Bad Robot / Amblin Entertainment Production is produced by Steven Spielberg, Abrams and Bryan Burk. The film stars Kyle Chandler, Elle Fanning, Joel Courtney, Gabriel Basso, Noah Emmerich, Ron Eldard, Riley Griffiths, Ryan Lee and Zach Mills. Super 8 arrives in theaters June 10.

Update (12:38PM): Okay, the website looks to finally be working, so visit and see if you can reserve a screening ticket. The site wasn't working for a while at the start, but is back up now!

We're incredibly excited to be a part of this and I'm even more excited that FirstShowing and SlashFilm are hosting the Los Angeles screening, as this is now our home and we love the fans here. We've been covering Super 8 since the very beginning, even going all the way back to Cloverfield, but it's the moment you've all been waiting for as J.J.'s latest sci-fi blockbuster is finally about to hit theaters. If you're in Los Angeles and can make it to the screening, we'll see you there tomorrow night! If not, you can hit the viral website to get more info on other early screening locations, or we suggest buying tickets to see it in theaters this weekend.

Are you supposed to follow the twitter account and then use the Hashtag "mint"? There's no place to enter "Mint"...

Anonymous on Jun 7, 2011

Give it a few minutes, apparently the website went down and they're fixing it now, it should be back soon. Keep checking it until a password prompt pops up!

Alex Billington on Jun 7, 2011

Where are we supposed to enter the password "Mint"? I don't see a place for it.

404 error for me

Mike on Jun 7, 2011

Oops wish I would've seen this link sooner.  This link works but the main Super8 site still does not work for me.  BTW, there are some tix still available in some of the cities, but unfortunately LA is already gone 🙁

TheODI on Jun 8, 2011

I think you have to follow them on twitter first in order to see the password box.

Zerokul175 on Jun 7, 2011

I am following them, but I still don't see it.

Tyler on Jun 7, 2011

Okay, it looks to be working again now, without a password. Visit as fast as you can and try and grab a ticket while you can! Let us know if you get one? You should receive a confirmation email.

Alex Billington on Jun 7, 2011

That1Guy on Jun 7, 2011

Still not working for me

Barnaby Barrilla on Jun 7, 2011

Try refreshing the site again, it should show a sign-up form now without the password. It's still working as far as I can tell.

Alex Billington on Jun 7, 2011

Yeah just worked for me. Thanks Alex.

Barnaby Barrilla on Jun 7, 2011

Great, good to hear! Enjoy!

*Sigh* No Portland

Only 232 seats. What time is everyone showing up? Doors open at 7pm for a 10pm show? I might just wait until Friday morning and see it in IMAX. Someone talk me into going.

Ibleedbloo on Jun 7, 2011

Yahoo got my ticket for LA!  Can't wait to see it!

Cherry Davis on Jun 7, 2011

Aww, figure with all the time he spent in Hawaii on LOST we'd get one too. Ah who am I kidding, with just 0.3% of the US population we never get anything.

Anonymous on Jun 7, 2011

Hmm.. never been to a screening before, so kinda dumb question. Is it a free show? or we pay for the ticket when we get there ?

manfromearth on Jun 7, 2011

my previous comment did not go through, so trying again... I am kind of new to screenings. So, do we need to pay for the ticket when we get there and wait for 3 hours, or is the screening free generally?

Super8fan on Jun 7, 2011

Yea, it's definitely free, no paying for anything at all! If you got a ticket through the online system, that's all you'll need, so bring that with you and go see the movie! 🙂

Alex Billington on Jun 7, 2011

Got my ticket! When do you recommend being at the one in LA Alex? 7? Or even earlier?

Anonymous on Jun 7, 2011

Damn, looks like I missed it.  Would've loved to see it with fellow FirstShowing people.
