Taylor Lautner Getting Serious by Joining Gus Van Sant's New Indie
From his work in The Twilight Saga to his turn as a new action star in Abduction, the acting of Taylor Lautner has left something to be desired as he struggles to walk and talk at the same time. However, you have to give the kid credit for making the effort to get a little more serious in his dramatic skills as THR has word that Lautner is finalizing a deal to star in and produce a small budget indie from Good Will Hunting and Milk director Gus Van Sant. Though details on the film slated to shoot early next year are scarce, it is said to be based on an unknown non-fiction article in The New Yorker which Lautner optioned himself.
Apparently some sort of official announcement is expected later this week, including who will be penning the script. The fact that Lautner is producing through his own Quick Six production banner also shows the actor's strong desire to become more than a pretty face and a shirtless body in this industry, but he has a lot of work to do in the acting department if he wants to be taken seriously. Van Sant and an indie project is certainly the right way to go about doing that, but after seeing Lautner put on some decent comedic chops in Valentine's Day and that Field of Dreams 2: NFL Lockout short from Funny or Die, maybe he needs to go the comedic route again sooner than later. It seemed to have worked better for Channing Tatum when he starred in The Dilemma. What do you think?
