'The Dark Knight Rises' Adds Matthew Modine and Tom Conti to Cast

Tom Conti / Matthew Modine

Well, earlier today The Dark Knight Rises opened up their viral gates with the launching of the official website for the film, and the first official look at Tom Hardy as Bane (seriously, he just looks so hardcore). The excitement has died down a bit, but two more actors have joined the cast, even as production is already underway across the world. Variety says Matthew Modine (Full Metal Jacket, "Weeds") and Tom Conti (Derailed, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence) have both joined the cast in unknown roles. They're certainly strange additions to an impressive cast, but I doubt their roles will be major in the grand scheme of things.

The roles for these actors may be akin to something like Anthony Michael Hall's role in The Dark Knight, or Rutger Hauer in Batman Begins. Their characters will likely help move the story along but they won't appear in more than a few scenes (though it's funny that Modine's character in Full Metal Jacket was named Joker). In addition these two name actors will also be joined by child actor Joey King (Battle Los Angeles) in an unspecified role as well.

Of course, if you're going to get a small role in a film, it might as well be one of the most anticipated films of 2012. And when you have the chance to share the screen with the likes of Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Marion Cotillard, Tom Hardy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, you take the role, even if you're playing a mailbox. Stay tuned as more news on The Dark Knight Rises becomes available.

I’m glad that Matthew Modine has joined the cast. I’ve been saying that the cast still feels incomplete and like it’s missing key characters.

OK... sorry, but this has wound me up. Prejudice, not predigest. You're, not your are. Minor, not miner. I apologise for my outburst, I have Riddler-esque OCD.

I still can't understand why he puts so many well known guys in this. How long would it be? We know who the biggest stars are gonna be. I understand that he is trying to generate interest in the movie by adding well known actors but this is going to some levels... I am waiting next for Brad Pitt and Will Smith .Surely those would be fine additions too!
