Viggo Mortensen Joins Universal's 'Snow White and the Huntsman'
With an evil queen already line up with Charlize Theron in talks to take the villainous role, Universal seems to have finally found their titular huntsman after names like Johnny Depp and Tom Hardy were connected to the role previously. Variety reports Viggo Mortensen is in talks to take the lead male role in this new version of the classic fairytale in Snow White and the Huntsman. Keep in mind that this has nothing to do with the other Snow White project that's been set up at Relativity Media with Tarsem Singh (The Fall) directing. The studio still has to find their Snow White, and it doesn't sound like it will be a known name.
As a matter of fact, Universal is looking for a new face much in the same way Paramount found Hailee Steinfeld for True Grit (and now she has an Oscar nomination). The project is still on the fast-track to move into production as soon as possible in order to beat Singh's alternate Snow White project. As of now the film is looking to start shooting this summer in order to meet a December 21st, 2012. Rupert Sanders is still on board to direct, so let's hope Mortensen's casting really puts this project into overdrive so we have a Snow White battle very soon. Thoughts?
