Kaboom Trailer

"Strange seems to be the new normal lately." IFC Films has debuted the official trailer on Apple for Gregg Araki's Kaboom, an indie comedy about some college guys' sexual awakening and trippy sci-fi conspiracy adventure. This stars Thomas Dekker, Haley Bennett, Juno Temple, Jimmy Duval, Kelly Lynch and Roxane Mesquida. To call this film rampant with sex would not be an understatement, but that's expected for Gregg Araki. I saw this in Cannes (read my review) and found it to be one of the weirdest, wildest, wackiest films I think I've ever seen. They can't show much in this, but you'll definitely see how colorful this film is. Enjoy!

A wild, sex-drenched, comical thriller that tells the story of Smith (Thomas Dekker), an ambisexual college freshman who stumbles upon an epic conspiracy in a seemingly idyllic Southern California seaside town.

Kaboom is both written & directed by award-winning filmmaker Gregg Araki, of many Sundance indies like The Long Weekend, Totally Fucked Up, The Doom Generation, Nowhere, Splendor, Mysterious Skin and Smiley Face. This premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last year but will also be playing at Sundance. IFC Films is bringing Kaboom to theaters on January 28th and on VOD direct from Sundance January 22nd.

um... I'd watch it. this is strange to see this considering about two weeks ago I started drafting a steampunk story about a gay teen.

This looks terrible. It's like they tried to fuse Donnie Darko and Scott Pilgrim and make it ultra quirky. Shitty music, cheesy everything. It's crap like this that makes me wanna smack indie cinema. This is the closest thing to an indie with Epic Movie quality.

Araki's movies are always weird but I always watch them. I liked Mysterious Skin

i'm not sure what to think - it's definitely different. with all of the movies i have to see, i really doubt i'll be catching this one. it just doesn't have anything that stands out.

What the hell was that?! And I wish strange was the new normal.

What genre even is this?

Hmm... two thoughts: I guess no condom was harmed in that movie. Typical for a wannabe metro-bi-whatever-sex-glorifying movie. Would have preferred "Homo with a shutgun" instead 🙂 (No offense intended, really!)
