Into the White Trailer

"May I introduce you to the beautiful Norwegian countryside!" Take a look at a trailer for a film I had never heard of until today, but looks pretty damn good, even compared to The Grey. It's called Into the White, directed by Norwegian Petter Næss, and is a WWII-set survival thriller. It stars an international cast lead by Rupert Grint, of Harry Potter fame, as well as Florian Lukas, David Kross, Stig Henrik Hoff and Lachlan Nieboer. It's about two groups of pilots from opposite sides who shoot each other down but must stay at the same cabin to survive. The trailer is mostly in English with some German, but it looks quite good.

Watch the first official trailer for Petter Næss's Into the White, originally via Vlicious:

English and German pilots shoot each other down, and later find themselves at the same cabin. In order to survive the Norwegian winter they have to stay together. It's the start of a long and unlikely friendship.

Into the White is directed by Norwegian filmmaker Petter Næss, of a few films like Absolute Hangover, Just Bea, Mozart and the Whale, Leaps and Bounds and Shameless previously. The screenplay was written by Ole Meldgaard, Dave Mango & director Petter Næss. This was filmed earlier this year mostly in Sweden and Norway. Zentropa Norway is releasing in Scandinavia in March next year, but we're not sure when it'll arrive over here yet, it doesn't have a US distributor as far as we know. Ron Weasley looks terrible in this. He just looks too young, like a twelve year old wearing grownup clothes. The rest of the cast looks good, but with Ron in there I can't take it seriously.

I think his youthful appearance can be seen as representative of those who are thrust into conflict while young.

        Agreed.

Both of my grandfathers were very young when they fought in WWII, one was just 17. Neither of them looked like this baby-faced 15 year old. He just looks like a child in the middle of the rest of the cast. I'll still watch the film as I love WWII films, but I stand by my opinion on this one.

Rupert Grint (Ron) is something like 23 or 24 now. I'm sure many of the soldiers in WWII looked as he does. Perhaps you just associate him with children as he is a child actor.

I think you're being a little unfair. I mean, Rupert Grint (Ron) is 23, and it's doubtful that no soldier or pilot in the British army had young looking features. That's just silly. Regardless of whether your grandparents looked baby-faced or not, I'm sure they didn't represent the every person below 20 in the UK at the time.
        • Oh my goodness Josh. You're generalizing based on your own experience. I can understand your trouble with Rupert Grint though. He has spent the last 10 years playing immature Ron Weasley: The wizard who has the hottest witch in front of him for years and never made a move until the laaaaaaast movie.  But, I've seen photos of some of those pilots in WWII. They all didn't look like Tom Hanks in Saving Private Ryan. Many of them could have easily been Anthony Michael Hall (aka "The Geek" from 16 Candles).

Maybe the film is better but the trailer felt disjointed.

actually based on real events, this one. plot in the film with the pilots met are true, the German pilot survived the war actually and moved to Canada I think.
