Black Swan Visual Effects

Although it didn't receive an Oscar nomination in the Visual Effects category, anyone who has seen Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan knows that there are some incredible visual effects used seamlessly in the movie. They're also very key to the story and the film just wouldn't be the same if they weren't as amazing as they are. Look Effects (via RopeofSilicon) recently debuted a fantastic effects reel and behind-the-scenes look at the CGI work that went into the film. The site fxguide also has more extensive reading on all the effects. It's mesmerizing to watch and should leave you more than impressed. This has big spoilers so watch out.

Black Swan features 240 visual effects shots that involve compositing, face replacement, gore and makeup.

Black Swan has received 5 nominations in the 83rd Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Actress (Natalie Portman) and Best Editing. Portman also won a Golden Globe.

Black Swan is directed by award winning iconic filmmaker Darren Aronofsky, of the films Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, and The Wrestler previously. The story and script were written by newcomer Andres Heinz and revised by Protozoa Pictures' exec Mark Heyman. Fox Searchlight released Aronofsky's fifth film on December 3rd last year. Its received BAFTA & VES noms for visual effects. See this if you haven't yet!

Yea, I love seeing these kind of behind-the-scenes visual effects videos, but they don't often get released like this early.

It's really interesting! The mirror shots are eerily similar to a low budget production directed by a new indie female director, Yoko Suenaga and written and produced by indie writer/producer, Desi Singh. It's titled "Wind," and it stars Yuu Asakura, Desi Singh, Eiji Inoue and Daisuke Suzuki. The trailer, was posted on youtube about two years ago and shows the same mirror visual effect. It can be seen at the following url. http://www.youtube.com/user/AMRAFILMS?feature=mhum#p/u/4/yESHpNDRhOA From my understanding, the film was never finished and I believe they only posted the trailer as a tool to raise production funds. And they are still looking for financing to finish the project. It looks pretty creepy to me. What do you guys think?
