"I'm either going home or home." An official trailer has been revealed via Apple for one of the most praised and talked-about documentaries to hit the fall festival circuit - Werner Herzog's Into the Abyss. This time Herzog heads down to Texas to look at the death penalty and panel system, following two convicts involved in a homicide, providing viewers with a "gaze into the abyss of the human soul." The film has quite a bit of buzz thanks to rave reviews like this on The Film Stage: "Herzog remains a master, providing us humanity, which is far more complex – and troubling than the facts." This looks very good, highly recommend viewing.

In intimate conversations and through the life stories of those involved, including 28-year-old death row inmate Michael Perry (who was scheduled to die eight days after his interview with Herzog), Herzog's investigation in the film unveils layers of humanity, making an enlightening trip out of ominous territory.
Into the Abyss: A Tale of Death, A Tale of Life, is directed by legendary German filmmaker Werner Herzog, of many docs like Lessons of Darkness, Little Dieter Needs to Fly, Grizzly Man, Encounters at the End of the World and Cave of Forgotten Dreams.
