Werner Herzog Playing the Villain in Tom Cruise's 'One Shot' Thriller!
If we had WTF or crazy categories, that's where I'd be filing this! Variety is reporting that the upcoming Paramount thriller One Shot, set to star Tom Cruise, being directed by Christopher McQuarrie (Usual Suspects screenwriter, director of The Way of the Gun) from his own script, is getting the oddest of villains. Apparently German filmmaker/documentarian Werner Herzog will be starring as the villain "The Zec", an ex-prisoner of war who arranges and stages a killing and is the head of the conspiracy. Cruise plays Jack Reacher, who investigates the same case of a sniper accused of murdering five people before being captured.
We've been following this One Shot project for a while, as its gearing up to start production and has started casting, with Rosamund Pike, Robert Duvall and Richard Jenkins joining. Variety's Justin Kroll reports that McQuarrie had always wanted to work with Herzog, and after meeting him, "he saw the opportunity to do so with his latest project." This is the first acting role for Herzog, besides cameos, voiceover work for "The Simpsons" and of course appearances in his own docs and the like. This is the next big action Tom Cruise project and already has a February 8th, 2013 release date set by Paramount. It's based on a series of books by Lee Child, which a lot of people are familiar with, which should make this exciting to see. It's definitely interesting to see Herzog cast in this too, that's for sure. What do you guys make of all this?
