William Hurt / The Host

The younger members of the cast for the big screen adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's sci-fi novel The Host have already been lined up with Saoirse Ronan taking the role of Melanie Stryder, one of the last humans putting up a fight against an alien species called Souls and Max Irons and Jake Abel taking the two lead male roles who end up in a strange love triangle with girl. Now some of the supporting roles are getting filled and EW says Robin Hood and Too Big to Fail star William Hurt has now joined the cast as Melanie's eccentric Uncle Jeb, one of the grizzled leaders of the human survivalists fighting off the alien invasion.

The film focuses on an alien invasion of parasites who take over human bodies by fusing to each person's consciousness and systematically erase their personalities. However, Melanie is relentless in her resistance to Wanderer and refuses to surrender her consciousness. In this struggle the alien apparently becomes overwhelmed by Melanie's memories and emotions and ends up reconnecting with the girl's old life, hence the strange love triangle between Abel and Irons' characters with one being in love with Melanie and the other with Wanderer. Andrew Niccol is directing the film which is slated for release in March of 2013.

I wish William Hurt would do more mainstream movies. We see too little of him now.

Isn't their a Korean sci fi film with the exact same name? Might pose a problem with marketing. http://www.mediocrityisthenewgenius.com
