'Wonder Woman' Adrianne Palicki to Star in 'G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes'

Lady Jaye / Adrianne Palicki

Though we won't see her on air in the canned "Wonder Woman" TV series, "Friday Night Lights" star Adrianne Palicki will still see some big action next summer. Deadline reports the stunning Palicki is the latest to join the cast of the Hasbro sequel G.I. Joe 2. The actress will be playing Lady Jaye, a character from the cartoon series who was a Joe covert operations specialist with a talent for impersonation, right down to the subject's voice and mannerisms. The cast is filling out quickly as Paramount is still looking to fill the 2012 summer spot left vacant by the Star Trek sequel, which is likely moving to winter instead.

Palicki joins a cast that includes just a handful of returning franchise members like Channing Tatum, Ray Park and Byung Hun-Lee, and new faces like Dwayne Johnson, RZA and D.J. Cotrona. More casting is still coming, and apparently the search is on for a big name to play the original G.I. Joe, General Joseph B. Colton. Apparently Bruce Willis has been one of the names tossed around (perfect casting if you ask me), but there's a few other unknown contenders in the running as well. A name like Willis might get me a little more interested, but that's assuming the script from Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick is a vast improvement over the first film. We'll definitely keep you updated as pre-production continues on this.

Love her, big big big fan of Friday night lights. Hopefully this sequel is watchable but I will go see it just for her either way.

Why is this film being made?

Good frickin' question... I hated the first G.I. Joe. Ugh. I only have faith in the screenwriters... but that's it. Otherwise, I'm right there with you.

because Transformers was such a big hit and the original two are from the same creators.....

Because people still love G.I. Joe. Plus the first one made money...

For the reason that Green Lantern 2 is being made. For money.

The first one made just enough money to make it profitable.  That's the only excuse Hollywood needs any more. :/

All I see are tits and a gun. Mission accomplished?

Ethan - with that pic you linked for General Colton the face that immediately came to mind was JK Simmons.  heh.  He might be cheaper than Willis.

You know what really puts G.I. Joe in the toilet....Channing Tatum. He sucks and ruins every movie he does. I don't understand how he gets work.

i know, guarantee if they took a cardboard cutout of him and had him speak behind it no one would notice the difference.....

Duke isn't exactly the most interesting character to begin with, Tatum was very forgettable. The backstory they came up with for Snake Eyes was uninspired in the last film. And yet it was sort of a guilty pleasure, terrible, but fun enough to watch more than once. This sequel.... I don't think I'll bother. Supposedly only Duke, Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow are returning characters. I guess it was too much to hope for that Storm Shadow would stay dead. Now since Scarlett's not returning, they're replacing her with another of the female Joes. Can you not have more than one badass chick in a movie? Marlon Wayans was probably my least favorite part of the first movie, so if he's not returning that's the only thing this movie seems to have going for it.

There's usually only one chick due to the 'Smurfette Principle' (google for it), aka the law of token females. It's sad.

I'm not gonna hide behind anything...  I'm in.  I've loved the cartoon, comics & toys since I was 4 years old.  Now, as an adult I fully understand that this is also the source material so I'm not gonna flip out if it isn't TDK-level.  🙂   Just me.
