Both a 'Child's Play' Sequel and Remake Are Being Developed Now?

Over a year ago now, with MGM back on the rise, it sounded like a remake of Child's Play might finally getting off the ground with Brad Dourif returning to voice everyone's favorite murderous little buddy Chucky. However, since then updates on the project have been stagnant. Well, Moviehole recently attended North Carolina's Mad Monster Party convention and Dourif was in attendance for a reunion preceding the forthcoming 25th anniversary of the horror favorite, and offered an update saying a remake is still in the works, but that a separate sequel in the franchise was also being developed at the same time. More below!

The remake seems to still be in the hands of Don Mancini, and it has been said to be darker and less comedic than the original franchise. Meanwhile, the sequel, which sounds like more of a spin-off, is said to involve Chucky's immediate family. Following Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky, that's not all that surprising. Going by the title Revenge of Chucky, the sequel will likely continue the increasingly dark comedic tone the franchise has come to embody. Dourif is apparently involved in both projects, but he points out that no script for the remake has been sent his way yet. As of now, it's not even clear how likely it is for either of these projects to actually take off, but with the 25th anniversary coming next year, there's no better time to bring back Chucky for the fans. Which one sounds better?

I LOVE Brad Dourif. In everything he does. As long as he voices Chucky, I'll see it. A remake is unnecessary though. Just make a new one without the humor from the last 2.

The series needs a reboot, not a sequel so they should scrap the idea for a sequel and work harder on the remake.

In all honesty, the Seed of Chucky was a terrible addition to a fastly dwindling franchise. The bride and the son have steered Chucky in a bad direction. I dont want to see his family, his bride or know more about his son....something needs to bring Chucky back on track and for once it seems like a remake is the only way to do that.

I'm all for a new Chucky film If done right but I must beg of Don to stop with this dark comedic tone. It sucks...Bride was fine but I want a sequel up there with the first 3 films. As a Child's Play fan, we get the short end of the stick when it comes to Chucky films. It really doesn't seem like Don is listening to the fans. We are your bread and butter. If we don't like the film and he repeats the same mistakes he did with Seed then this will fail as well and he'll be sitting on his couch wondering what am I doing wrong? LISTEN TO US!

I'm going with the sequel. Because after all the exposure I'm not sure the property is scary anymore. Anyone remember Wes Craven's New Nightmare? I didn't think so.

If they do Revenge of Chucky they should kill off Glen and Tiffany right in the beginning so that the rest of the movie could focus on Chucky and Andy

  they should not even involve them. Tiffany got what she wanted, she is human with children; therefore her story is done. They should just forget the ending to seed and bring back chucky in whatever way they have planned.

    i dont think it should exclude tiffany and the kids, but i think it should alos include the kids of andy maybe. how about, ironically, glen is dating andy's daughter which pisses chucky off beyond reason. or even glenda dating a son of andy better yet, then he comes back to kill tiff an dthe kids and to take andys sons body since he failed with andy. idk, lol just a thought of how they could include them and bring andy back too

I think they should do both the remake and the sequel, yes make the remake darker with no comedy at all, give people those creeps when watching a darker new scarier chucky.......Anyways i wrote something that some people might want to see in a future Chucky movie - they should bring Andy (Alex Vincent) and Karen (Catherine Hicks) back...and they should make Andy having a son already ......it's on Andy's son's 8th birthday ((Andy's son wanted a Good Guy doll so bad)) when Andy and Andy's mom Karen decide to get him a Good Guy Doll thinking that Chucky is no longer coming back......later, story repeats itself when Chucky starts talking to Andy's son, Chucky did not have a clue that he was on Andy's house untill Chucky saw the papers and photos of Andy when he was child and had problems with the "Good Guy Doll".... Chucky then gets revenge on Andy by killing him, leaving grandma Karen (Catherine Hicks) to protect Andy's son from Chucky wanting to possess him (Change bodies)......... I think they should make a Chucky movie with the story i made up, Right???

See the whole original idea has been killed. Andy is the first one to see Charles Lee Ray Alive as The doll,So technically the 3rd movie made no sense at all...Why was Chucky trying to go into Tylers body when He was supposed to go into andys body. Seed of Chucky was the worst cause Glen was able to make Tiffany an Chucky come alive just from saying the words on the Heart of Demballa but yet in the 1st 3 movies Chucky couldnt do it. So yea im hoping that this "Revenge of Chucky" will have new twist cause im sure Chucky wont want to go in the body of an older man since andy would be in his 30's now.

Both and a remake is needed because nightmare on elm had one Friday the 13th and Halloween all had one....I agree andy needs to come back and will watch only if brad douriff does the voices for both...the guy who jus played freddy sucked from the watchmen....Robert englund made freddy who he is like brad doriff...so why would we take away there original personalities ....they can be extremly dark n still comedic...don't change the character man that's where these remakes go wrong

SCREW THE SEQUEL!!! THIS SERIES NEEDS A FULL FLEDGED REBOOT THATS CLEARLY WHAT THE FANS WANT!! THATS WHAT WE NEED TO GET!!! They need to give us what we want, and thats A SCARY CHUCKY!! Bride of Chucky was okay with the funny stuff, but they over did it with Seed, I am a diehard chucky fan Im almost 20 years old been into "The Chuck" since the age of 5, he is my childhood favorite slasher, and it will pain me if I have to see them ruin him more than they did with Seed.

The Beginning of "The Revenge of Chucky" should be like Andy has a son and Andy's son wants a doll. When Chucky arrives at Andy's House, Chucky should be good to the kid secretly. And when chucky finds out the photos of Andy and his diary he turns out to be bad then killing Andy

after the first one, its true part 2 and 3 were kind of comedic. I mean I was like 6 or 7 and I was laughing with chucky instead of being scared of him. and dont even mention the bride of chucky serious. now part 1 will always be the epic one.

A sequel or reboot would be great.. but imagine this. a sequel with a late 20's or middle aged Andy, and somehow he ecounters chucky again. im sure a great script can come form this premise, and maybe even use the andy from child's play 3, cuz i think the original andy doesnt look right for the part anymore. would be great to see andy get haunted by chucky again even in his 30's.

I'd like to see a remake with some good talent. I don't mean big names in Hollywood, but some good acting and a good script. Chucky was a whole lot better as an evil Good Guy.
