It seems like Bradley Cooper is all over the place. The Silver Linings Playbook arrives next month, and The Place Beyond the Pines from Blue Valentine director Derek Cianfrance arrives early next year (though Alex already praised the film at TIFF earlier this year). In addition, the actor is currently filming The Hangover Part III and will also reunite with director David O. Russell as part of the all-star cast in the untitled drama formerly known as American Bullshit, starring Christian Bale, Jeremy Renner and Amy Adams. Now Deadline reports Cooper may join Emma Stone in the next Cameron Crowe film. Read on!
As we learned earlier this summer, Stone was in talks to lead the new film which is apparently a reworked version of Crowe's old project called Deep Tiki. It's not clear if the script has changed significantly since in was development awhile back, but the story followed a military weapons consultant deployed to a dormant base in Hawaii to supervise the launch of a spy satellite. However, he soon has moments of self-discovery as he realizes the relationships he left behind. The story gets a little weird with Hawaiian Gods and a volcano sacrifice, and thus drew some comparisons to Joe Versus the Volcano starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.
It's not clear if that lead role was tailored for Stone as an actress or if she's simply playing the female lead and Cooper will take that role of the weapons consultant. Of course, there's always a chance that this project really is something completely different. But with a description that calls the story reminiscent of Almost Famous and Jerry Maguire, it's easy to see how the description could fit that mold. Either way, pairing Cooper with Stone sounds great as they each have a solid set of comedic and dramatic chops. I can't decide if I'm more excited about that or the prospect of the soundtrack of another Crowe film. Stay tuned.
