Christian Bale Spewing 'American Bullshit' & Bradley Cooper Circling

Just last month we heard that David O. Russell was in talks to direct American Bullshit at Atlas Entertainment, the true story of Abscam, the FBI's 1980 undercover sting operation of Congress to root out corruption which was the brainchild of the world's greatest con man. There was dissension amongst some of the trades as to whether he was actually directing, but our own sources told us to stick with Variety's story confirming his involvement with the film that seems to have a home at Sony. Now Deadline has word that Christian Bale is attached to star in the film and Bradley Cooper is currently in talks to take a role too.

Eric Singer scripted the drama, and since his only feature film credit is the boring "thriller" The International, that leaves something to be desired. But I have faith in the talent that has been drawn to the script, and that quells any fears that I have for a weak screenplay. Plus, with The Dark Knight producer Charles Roven and his frequent collaborator Richard Suckle producing, that can only be good news for those following Bale's career with great interest post-Batman. As of now, the roles for Bale and Cooper are unclear, but it's an interesting blend of talents who have previously worked with Russell as The Fighter brought Bale an Oscar win, and Cooper just finished The Silver Linings Playbook. Count me in!
