Clint Eastwood Wryly Suggests He Could Direct 'The Expendables 3'
Just before the sequel The Expendables 2 hit theaters, producer Avi Lerner started some buzz for what will likely be the inevitable third installment of the veteran action ensemble franchise. Though no story has been crafted yet, the producer already had eyes on names like Wesley Snipes, Nicolas Cage, Harrison Ford and Clint Eastwood for roles. Now the latter Dirty Harry icon has spoken out (and not to an empty chair this time) about the possibility of starring in The Expendables 3. When asked about taking a role, Eastwood said, "I haven't read any material. Probably not." But that doesn't mean you can count him out completely.
Continuing the conversation with the insufferable gossip show Extra (via JoBlo), Eastwood said, "I'm probably more apt to direct something. Maybe I'll direct Expendables 3." Obviously, Eastwood is joking more than anything, but movies like Unforgiven, Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima have proven he can direct serious action. However, taking on the over-the-top action that The Expendables fans will expect might be a little more difficult, and doesn't seem like Eastwood's style. In addition, Eastwood noted he hasn't seen The Expendables yet. Maybe Stallone can convince him to make a cameo still?
