Yesterday we attended Marvel Studio's presentation inside of the massive Hall H at Comic-Con 2012 to watch and learn about Marvel's upcoming slate. They not only announced titles for their upcoming sequels Thor: The Dark World (in 2013) and Captain America: The Winter Soldier (in 2014), but also confirmed that a Guardians of the Galaxy movie is coming up in 2014. Finally, they showed Edgar Wright's unfinished Ant-Man test reel and a very fresh, very exciting sizzle reel from Iron Man 3 with Robert Downey Jr., which only just started shooting under the direction of Shane Black. It was an exhilarating panel overall.
Following the panel, I met up with Ethan and Ben, both writers with FirstShowing for a quick video blog outside the convention center discussing everything we saw during Marvel's Comic-Con 2012 presentation.
I would honestly have to say I was very impressed by the Iron Man 3 footage, it looked like they were trying to bring this back around to the "roots", meaning the first movie, and yet keep all of the values of Iron Man that worked so well that time. There was a brief reveal of Sir Ben Kingsley as Mandarin, the new villain, at the end of the footage. He not only looks badass with his rings and a gnarly beard, but sounds awesome too, as Black explained how he came up with his own voice and it's eerie and subtly sinister. It was only our very first glimpse, but the footage had some finished effects already, like Tony Stark's house being destroyed and falling into the ocean with him in it, and his new armor that flies right onto his body. I'm very excited for it.
We always love discussing this in person and hope you have enjoyed our video blogs from Comic-Con 2012.
