Custom 'Shaun of the Dead' LEGO Set Just Might Become a Reality

Shaun of the Dead LEGO Set

Only years after a film sees its release on the big screen do you get a sense of just how impacting a film will be in the future of cinema and the world of pop culture in general. One surprising film that has a huge following and has resulted in the fantastic career of director Edgar Wright is Shaun of the Dead. The film not only helped launch the American fame of British stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, but it also allowed for the success of Hot Fuzz and the excitement for another film in the so-called Blood and Ice Cream trilogy. Now the film looks to be more ingrained in pop culture history with its own LEGO set. Yes!

Simon Pegg (via The Guardian) promoted the LEGO set on Conan (around the 3:30 minute mark):

The custom created set comes from Gregory Coquelz, or Yatkuu as he's now known online. But how might this actually become a reality? Well, there's a site called Cuusoo where a community of LEGO fans vote on custom sets, and those who get the necessary 10,000 votes of support are sent before a real LEGO jury to determine whether or not they want to put the set into production. As of now the set has earned the necessary votes and the rest is up to the nerd gods.

The only reason I can see this being a hard sell is because it's from an R-rated movie with a more adult following. The site even told Coquelz, "Due to the themes behind Shaun of the Dead, there would need to be some significant internal discussion for us to agree to produce this as a product. While we appreciate your work and celebrate this big success with you, we are not guaranteeing production." Having this set of the Winchester pub (see more photos of the entire set, including the inside, right here) with all the characters and zombies under one LEGO roof would be cool as hell, so I hope this happens somehow. Cool, right?

I would buy this in a heartbeat if it didn't mean receiving eye-rolls and disgusted sighs from my wife in perpetuity.

Still baffled by this movie's popularity. Found it to be over rated, dreadfully corny and painful to get through and i do enjoy some British humor, old and new.

How nice of you to waste your time on a post related to a set of toys related to a movie you hate.  Thanks for stopping by!

I didn't care for Hot Fuzz either, but Shaun of the Dead is brilliant.
